Procrastination is My Friend

It's a windy but sunny day.  I've only ventured out of the house two or three times.  I may get blown over :) So I did a few dishes, a load of laundry, made a few phone calls, and watched three movies: Catching Fire, Happy Feet, and Despicable Me 2.

I'm sure I have about 140 student papers to read and grade. And now it's after 4:30 and I have managed NOT to tackle thank-you notes today.  I thought that I was ready to do that.  Perhaps I will get to them on Thursday.  I know, I don't have a deadline, I just want to write.  So here I am.

I finally found a K-Love or another great contemporary christian radio station...did I mention the sun was shining today?

Seeing Clearly Again

Progressive Lens After wearing 'readers' for the past 16 years, I finally broke down and got an eye exam.  I think the last time I had an eye exam was 1979!  I left an hour later with a couple of hundred dollars less in my wallet, and an order for progressive lenses in the cute frames I liked. Today I received my glasses.  I was nervous and excited.  I put them on and I could see!  Let me rephrase that:  I could see straight.  If I looked down, up, or sideways...it was blurry.  I'm thinking to myself, what have I done?  The optometrist said this was all normal and my eyes or my brain would adjust.   So I left, enjoying how clear the road straight ahead was. Day Four

The Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, is the basis of Christian belief.  A clover or  shamrock is a symbol of the Trinity.  It is also said that the leaves represent faith, hope, and love.  As I write during my lenten journey without facebook, I think about my faith. I am third of my parents' eight children.  I was blest to have been born to parents with a strong belief in God.  I tend to belief that I was born with the Spirit.  I was lucky.  I have always had faith that life is good.  I believed that people were good.  I knew bad things would happen, but for a greater good that I just had to believe in. If I looked at my life, I could remember all of the bad things: a fire in our home when I was in sixth grade, or becoming a single parent of four children under six when I was only 28.  The accidental death of my sister when she was just 38 and I 36.  A car accident that changed my mom and dad's life fore...

80th Birthday

My Mom, aka the lunchroom lady, during a Halloween parade at Raymer School sometime in the 80's My mom was born on Halloween.  She would be celebrating her 80th birthday this year.  I'm writing this blog from the oldest (working) computer in my house, a Mac Power PC G4.  It was the one I used when my mom was alive and is still where 95% of my photos are.  [Now that's scary!] My mom has been in heaven since 2008.  I miss her.  Sometimes I think of the sad times, like the day of her funeral, when Haylee helped me make it through the day.  But most times I think of times of her life, like always giving you something when you left her house: one day she gave me a pencil!  I looked at her confused and she said:  My mom always gave me something when I left, so ...
