Seeing Clearly Again

Progressive Lens After wearing 'readers' for the past 16 years, I finally broke down and got an eye exam.  I think the last time I had an eye exam was 1979!  I left an hour later with a couple of hundred dollars less in my wallet, and an order for progressive lenses in the cute frames I liked. Today I received my glasses.  I was nervous and excited.  I put them on and I could see!  Let me rephrase that:  I could see straight.  If I looked down, up, or sideways...it was blurry.  I'm thinking to myself, what have I done?  The optometrist said this was all normal and my eyes or my brain would adjust.   So I left, enjoying how clear the road straight ahead was. It's been four or five hours since then, and things have really improved.  I'm writing this blog with my laptop on my lap.  And the screen looks pretty clear!  I love my new Coco*Song Eyewear.   I guess my frames are made of satin and have a feather in the...

Discussions at the Dentist

I was at the dentist today, getting a new filling for an old filling that had fallen out.  The filling was pretty big, it had fallen out the side of a molar, so I had to be 'numbed' with Novocane (procane).  My dentist, Dr. Joseph Sexton , was making sure that I didn't feel anything and somehow we started talking about the opioid addiction epidemic.  I mentioned how I had recently watched the HBO Documentary:  Warning; This Drug May Kill You I told him one of the stories, about a 14 year old girl who had suffered from kidney stones and was given percocet and then oxycontin. Throughout high school, her younger sister and her started using those drugs to feel good.  Eventually they moved on to heroin and the sister died of an overdose.  The story follows the girl, who is now a mother herself, as she fights her addiction, vowing not to put her mother through another death.  It is a very sad, but true, eye opening documentary. Day Four

The Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, is the basis of Christian belief.  A clover or  shamrock is a symbol of the Trinity.  It is also said that the leaves represent faith, hope, and love.  As I write during my lenten journey without facebook, I think about my faith. I am third of my parents' eight children.  I was blest to have been born to parents with a strong belief in God.  I tend to belief that I was born with the Spirit.  I was lucky.  I have always had faith that life is good.  I believed that people were good.  I knew bad things would happen, but for a greater good that I just had to believe in. If I looked at my life, I could remember all of the bad things: a fire in our home when I was in sixth grade, or becoming a single parent of four children under six when I was only 28.  The accidental death of my sister when she was just 38 and I 36.  A car accident that changed my mom and dad's life fore...
