Long Away

I have been away from writing for a while.  Sometimes this is a time management issue. Other times, I just can't believe what is going on in my life or the world so I keep quiet.

Apparently, I have found time today.  I'm not real sure what I have to say except that I am really grateful that I live in Ohio today.  The reason I'm so happy about Ohio today is that up here in NW Ohio, Toledo to be exact, we've had a pretty good summer.  Not too hot or humid...just a couple of sweaty days...and pretty much no rain until recently.

Weather determines alot of what we as people experience in our lives. Areas in the Gulf of Mexico are experiencing weather like they have never seen before.  Some southerners are or were more prepared than others.  I remember the times I lived on the gulf or on the Atlantic.

In 1984, I remember running away from Hurricane Dianna when I lived in Virginia Beach.  I remember my exchange student from Sweden, Gustav, in 2005 watching the news about Hurricane Katrina and stating how glad he was that he did not go to Mobile, Alabama as planned and came to Toledo, Ohio instead.  My son Derrick and his daughter Carly have lived with me since Hurricane Ike in 2008, when they relocated from Houston, TX.

Besides the weather, I'm glad that Ohio is in the north and doesn't have connections to the confederate army of south.  Those connections, are now 'triggers' to what I call 'over-sensitive' people in our country.  I know that I just offended many people with the term 'over-sensitive', but hear me out.  I too am a member of an 'over-sensitive' group.  I lost an adult child to a distracted driver.  So I am 'over-sensitive' to many triggers to the tragedy that changed my life.

I know that the people most close to me, my family and friends, have tolerated my 'over-sensitive' reactions to the world around me.  Thank you for tolerating me.  I hope that the triggers have diminished some in the past three years.  Please know that I will always be a different person than I was before the life changing event that happened in my life, whether it be a divorce, a death, a flood, or a fire.

May all of us, Americans as I, or just people of the world, realize that we are all here together, trying to live one day at a time.  We all need to be kind to one another.  Remember the golden rule - Treat Others the Way You Want to be Treated!
